Department of Economics started in 1968 with economics as one of the Major subject in the college, since 2020-21 Academic Year it is offering economics as both Major & Minor as per New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Before 2020-21 Academic Year it offered the courses in economics in combination with History, Economics and Political Science (HEP), Spt. Telugu –Economics and Political Science (TEP) and History, Economics and Social Work (HESW) till 2022-23 Academic years. The History, Economics and Computer Applications(HECA), Office Organization and Management subject is offered at the Under Graduate level with the combinations of Special Telugu, Political Science (T.P.O) from the academic year 2008-09 and 1999-2000 respectively as Restructured Courses and was later replaced with TEP and HESW to meet increased demand in the subject of economics in 2018-19. The faculty in Economics has to teach the subject as per the guidelines of APSCHE and accordingly made some modifications followed by the resolutions that are taken in the Board of Studies meeting and approval from Academic Council for every academic year.
At present two faculty members 1. Smt.T.Adilakshmi and Dr. B. Prabhakara rao have been working in the dept. Every year the department is striving to enroll a significant number of students to pursue economics as a subject both major and minor and the same students are encouraged to pursue their post graduation in economics at different Universities in the State as well as outside of the state to get more employment opportunities by pursuing Higher Education.
The vision of the Department of Economics is to offer a high quality education at undergraduate level to create an environment where students can pursue their higher level education in economics and further to motivate the students to pursue research in the field of Economics.
The mission of the department is :
1.To impart high quality teaching at undergraduate level including Honors courses.
2.To provide the students with a source of knowledge by which one can engage and able to apply their skills and knowledge to resolve their economic problems both at individual as well as at macro level.
3.To prepare the students with communication and analytical skills to make them ready to get employment opportunities as per existing competitiveness.
